Hello there, I have had a rega rp3 and brio-r for a while but been using wharfedale diamond speakers for it and im now looking to upgrade. My budget is around £1000 and I need one thats good close to walls. I'd also like them to be quite punchy as I find my current combo doesn't do a great job of being lively. Hope someone can help. Cheers

Purely based on your "near-wall" consideration, I'd look at these:

Neat Iota £820 including Iota stands. Tiny speakers, epic sound. I absolutely loved these speakers when I heard them at the Bristol show a couple of years ago. They were among the best speakers I heard all day regardless of size and price. Really fun and lively to listen to. Foot-tapping stuff.

ATC SCM7 £810 plus stands. These are sealed speakers to shouldn't have bass boom issues even if near walls.

Guru Junior £800 plus stands. These speakers are designed to be close to walls and are known to kick some bass despite their diminutive nature.

There are problems with these recommendations though. They don't take into account your room size, their respective synergy with your amp and sources (which in itself is essential to future musical enjoyment, so please demo demo demo as per the usual advice on these shores) and I didn't mention any floorstanders if floorstanders were what you were looking for. The only sub £1000 floorstanders I'm familiar with are rear-ported and might cause bass boom problems by being sited near to a wall. Unless you want to look at second hand PMC's with their front-ported Advanced Transmission Line system.

EDIT: PS: Obvious floorstanding options could be Rega's own RS3 or RS5. They're likely OK near a rear wall, but with their side-firing bass ports, could be problematic if near to side walls. Ought to synergise with your system though.
