Hi

This is my first post, Ive been reading through the threads and found them very informative.

I'm very much a novice and would appreciate any help and advice.

My room is 5m X 3.5m and have a budget of £1500 for an amp and speaker package.

I've set aside extra for cables blu-ray player etc.

Currently been running my TV through my Hi-Fi system for a few years but want a change after by left speaker blew.

I'm looking to upgrade to a home cinema unit, considering the Denon AVR 1909 with the Tannoy Mercury F1 custom 5.1 speakers. My main concern is how well will this setup perform musically as I listen to bass heavy music like RnB and Drum & Bass.

I've read AV amps don't perform as well compared to dedicated Hi -Fi amps when playing stereo.

I watch a lot of movies and play computer games so really looking for the best of both worlds with surround and stereo sound.

Is there a better sound system for my needs at this budget?

My current system:

Cambridge audio Azur 540A amp

Cambridge audio DAB 500 digital tuner

Cambridge audio A500 special edition CD player

Mission M73 Floorstanders (left speaker blown)

Thanks for the responses

How would I connect my cambridge 540A to the Denon 2808?

It sounds like a good option

Is there a guide to this?

basically, connect the front left and right pre-outs of the denon to a spare input on your cambridge, using a standard interconnect, then when you want movies you use both amps, for music you just need to switch on your cambridge

Thanks guys

Daveh 75 you're thread was very helpful

Thinking about paying a bit extra and going for the B&W 685 package and the Onkyo TXSR875.

Would I still benefit running the fronts off my Cambridge audio amp?

Depends how good your Cambridge amp is. I've got an 875 and still run the fronts off my Audiolab but the 875 in Pure Audio is not bad, you can compare the two when you have the 875 and see what you prefer.
