radiohead and the stones are both roughly 1000000 times less good than they think they are, and than their fans think too.

radiohead did not just (see the myriad other expensive editions) give away in rainbows for free, so can we drop that misconception now?

Some good points above mr E, but they have, in fact, 3 tricks. the mediocre one, the good one, and the awful one, which they have performed in that order. they seem happy to have settled on the latter for for the last 9 years or so though.

In your opinion. If you had listened to any of their music over the past 9 years, you might have a different one.

Are you really being so insulting as to presume i wrote the above without having heard their output over the last 9 years? you know what ass.u.me does, dont you?

It is possible to take someones opinion of your favourite bands/films/whatever too seriously.
I think you are trying to upset others cos you can't upset Andrew

Sorry if you found that insulting. You are easily insulted.

I really dont think that Radiohead deserve the stick they are getting for the charity single. They are creating awareness to people who may otherwise never donate a single penny so it can only be a good thing.

I doubt very much that Radiohead need the publicity or the money they may get inadvertently through doing this. If you dont like the single so what. Dont buy it. Im sure that there is many other music you dont like so why single this out?

And as for the all profits thing. Im sure you dont really think that every penny you put in a charity box, use to buy an item from a charity shop or the £2 a month you give to some other cause all goes to the charity.

Im going to jump down from my high horse now before I get banned for bad language!

A pessamistic thought.......Just wondering how much of he £1 will actually get the the British Legion. How many are in the loop and will want their cut.

If memory serves me right, a charity's legal obligation is to donate a minimum of 15% of collections to said beneficiary. Maybe its changed.....not too sure....

Andrew Everard:

And by the way, Mr Yorke, Harry Patch isn't the last survivor of the First World War: that's former seaman Claude Choules, who is 108 and now lives in Perth, Australia.

Andrew, shame on you

You missed out Frank Buckles and John Babcock.

I won't buy the track either, not into Radiohead, I'll just donate with my Dad's donation request letter instead.

But then Radiohead have done the same song over and over again. The pony only has one trick...

Whoa? Radiohead are certainly not a band that you can call a one trick pony. They're a band that's always trying new things and the difference between an album like pablo honey and kid A is huge!

The step from Pablo Honey (debut LP) to Kid A is huge and you'd expect that with three albums under their belt but the time Kid A came out!

As for Harry Patch; my dad fought in WW2 - France and India. Shot twice, saw a good friend blown up having stood on a landmine, as a family, we all had poppies. When my dad died in 1991, my link to WW2 went. I only knew of WW1 through the War Poets, most notably Anthem For Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen.

With the passing of Harry Patch, we have lost that link from the reality of living memory to that conveyed in words on a page. The real trick is to convey the message as effectively for the generations to come.

The music Radiohead put together I though was excellent, TY's vocals a little less appeaing.

You beat me to it bob123. Radiohead...'one trick ponies' ?!!! you're kidding right? that's like the complete opposite of the truth. Radiohead are probably the least 'one trick pony' bands around today. That's one of the things I love about them. You never know what to expect from their next album...but one thing you can be assured of is the quality and imaginativeness they somehow manage to dig up. They pull from such a wide range of musical influence that it always keeps their music interesting and streets ahead.

Thoms vocals on this track are supposed to sound fragile and weary..fit the song perfectly. I think it's beautiful. Love those strings.

Nope.

opposite of the truth.

Only like the complete opposite? Not actually the complete opposite, then?

weary.

Whereas in fact they just sound whiny.

I wasn't seeking forgiveness. I was just being fragile and weary - sorry if it came over as if I needed to be forgiven.
