crusaderlord:Whilst we await JoelSim's findings on his mains purchase.......
I received my Clearer Audio Copperline mains cable today on the 60 day guarantee thing - basically i have little else i can realistically upgrade given various agreements i made at home on the number of hi-fi boxes etc
And so the first impressions were yes it did make a difference, albeit subtle rather than substantial. Bear in mind i think my system sounds great anyway.
The key difference after a few hours testing back and forward was that there was a small improvement to the separation of the music layers as if it was put slightly more into focus. Also vocals seemed slightly sweeter to listen to. The bass on some tracks lost a smidgen of boom. The effect was more on the CD than the amp although i felt the amp also benefited. Was it worthwhile ? Well i would certainly get another for the amplifier. However to also qualify i would upgrade these after you have got the best separates you can. I am also happy knowing i am getting the best out of the system as it needs to last me a while.
I am left though with the oddity that ive never found any benefit on more expensive interconnects above the £50 mark and i really am not sure why this is. Just shows every system is different.
On another forum after a huge debate on interconnects with some people who knew their stuff on either side of the argument they arranged to meet in a hi-fi shop (with the owners agreement) and do some blind testing. They had some luck distinguishing those thin black cables that equipment comes with from £10 interconnects, after that, and I think in this test they had some very highly priced interconnects, hardly anyone could tell any difference at all.
Someone put a link to the test here once. But anyway, as they say in the X-Files, you are not alone.
