Hello,

I currently own a Panasonic TX-P4620, and I don't like it at all!

Now I'm planning to buy a TX-P50G30 and I would like to ask if somebody already owns this model.

@ what hifi , are you planning to do a review on the G30 Panasonic range?

Thanks !

Well we've got a review of the Panasonic TX-P50GT30 in our next issue (posted out to subscribers a week tomorrow; in shops/available as digital edition on 30th June) - it's in a group test of 50in sets, alongside its TX-P50VT30 sibling and several others.

The spec of the GT30 looks remarkably similar to that of the G30 (apart from the 3D capability, of course), but we'd have to get hold of the G30 itself to be sure the performance was the same. Will pursue with Panasonic re review samples...

Don't the G30 and GT30 use different filters, hence their respective "Infinite Black" and "Infinite Black Pro" badges? The G30 doesn't have an integrated Freesat tuner, either (one of the ways Panasonic has tried to push 3D this year).

I saw the 42" G30 and GT30 in action side by side a few months back, and while performance was similar, it wasn't identical.

It's the VT30 that differs re the contrast filter used.

I'd overlooked the Freesat tuner issue - some people would pay a little extra for that alone.

And as I mention in my post, just becuase sets have very similar specs, doesn't mean they'll perform the same! I will chase to see when we're getting a G30..

According to the Panasonic UK website, the G30 uses the "Infinite Black" filter, while the GT30 uses the "Infinite Black Pro" filter, unless I'm missing something? In the side by side comparison I did a while back, pictures on the G30 looked a tad more washed out than on the GT30. Sorry to be pedantic!

To be even more pedantic back...

Infinite Black/Infiniite Black Pro are not the contrast filters - they're Panasonic's contrast description. The contrast filters are the High Contrast Filter (same on G30 and GT30) and High Contrast Filter Pro (VT30).

As ever, of course, the devil is in the detail of how these TVs actually perform - when properly set up - rather than the raw specs.

I stand corrected (I'm often accused of pedantism, so thought I'd forestall such accusations).

Whatever the tech, I still thought the GT30 produced a slightly deeper shade of black than the G30, which was apparent even under shop lighting conditions (albeit with shop settings).

Perhaps the OP would be best advised to audition his proposed set, preferably with a retailer that will let them play around with settings.

Indeed - damn fine advice for anyone buying a TV

I'm buying the TV is an expert Hi-Fi store here in Belgium. The 50G30 was € 1300 and the 50GT30 was € 1700

They didn't have it in the store, so I could not see the difference.

I'm particulary interested in the G30, because I'm not really in to 3D and the G30 is assumed to be the best 2D TV in the present range of panasonic plasma TV's.

Really looking forward for an expert review of the G30
