Hi,
I asked the forum for help with converting my current hi-fi set up of an arcam alpha 8, mercury custom f1’s and a Beresford dac into a home theatre for my living room.
The suggestions were very useful but got me thinking that it may be worthwhile to leave my hi-fi alone in another room and start from scratch with the home theatre set up, but in doing so I would like to keep it as upgradable as possible. I don’t have a mega budget by any means so I am looking at this as a solution.
Sony 2400es amp (presuming this gets some good reviews by the WHF team, if not, then id
have to spend a bit more on an onk av amp). This amp has an amazing spec for the money and what really interests me is its pre-outs, essential for upgrading the way I’d like to. Cost should be around £400.
That leaves me little budget, so for speakers I was thinking the wharfdale diamond 9 HCP. Mainly because the SW150 sub has superb reviews and means I could probably leave that alone for a lot of years.
As music would be a bigger factor than home theatre but I still want a system capable of both,
I want a system that will play music (from my pc’s bit perfect optical out, to my Beresford dac, then to my 2400es amp) to a reasonable standard. Would the music from this av amp feeding my diamond 9 speakers be a big step down from my arcam alpha 8 feeding my tannoy f1’s?
In time I would like to add a new amp via pre outs to play music, then new fronts (b&w 695’s perhaps), then backs and a sub.
Does this make sense as a good upgradable route? Or do you suggest a different set of speakers for around the same money?
All suggestions welcome!
Simon
