New cd player og stick to the old one?

I now have the Sony CDP-XA2ES and when i got it some 15 years ago it was a good player and not one of the cheapest you could get. How has cd player performance gone since then? Would something like the NAD C515BEE beat it now or will my old workhorse be better given that it did cost a fair bit more back then?

Has things really moved on to a point where a budget deck like the 515 will beat mid-range players from the mid 90's?

The bits that have improved the most are the DACs in the last 15 years but you already have a DacMagic (I assume you are bypassing your Sony CD player's internal DAC and using it as a transport connected to the DacMagic instead).

Just keep the Sony as a good, solid transport and save your money.

Actually im using the cd player without the dac at the moment because it is in a separate summerhouse system with a CA 340 amp and dali ikon 1 speakers. Im thinking of moving it to the system where the dac is and get a second cd player to use with my summerhouse system.
