Hi all, at the moment I am considering an upgrade of sorts and have previous posts on this regardsing useing an external dac, but now I am thinking of upgrading my AV amp and am using a Denon 3802 at the moment.

The options I have narrowing it down are:

Denon, 3808, 2311 & 1911.

Pioneer VSX 920.

My plan is to listen to my music through my iPhone or connect my pc directly to the amp as I harldly listen to music with my dedicated arcam amp A80 and cd92 and is really redundant at the moment, I am new to all this regarding this but the key thing is keep the audio side as high a quality as possible and I know that the quality of data fed to amp is key also, so any advice is welcomed, many thanks in advance to all who reply

As grdunn says, it would be easier to make a recommendation if we knew what speakers you're using. The range of amps you list is interesting - I assume the 3808 would be second-hand. At the time of its release, it was in a higher price bracket, but things move on.

If you are concerned about maintaining the quality of music, I'd seriously recommend retaining your Arcam amp and connecting it to the receiver's pre-outs. That rules out the Pioneer, which can't do this.
