Pro-ject2-xperience basic+

Amp : Marantz PM6003

CD player : Marantz CD6003

Speakers : Q acoustics 2050i

How would this set up be for my first time I love listening to Pink Floyd and have a huge collection of albums I want to listen to ?

Alll your help is appreciated

Hi Ken,

Welcome to the forum.

Is your budget for new or second hand equipment? The Marantz pairing are not the current models - does this matter to you?

Which source are you going to be mostly using?

Can you go and listen to a few systems?

Hi Blackdown

£2000 for new,

The reason I chose Marantz was a friend mentiond the make and I found it on this site and seen they had good rating.

Im really not bothered about what I have as long as they all work well together like I say I have zero experience in this hi-fi equipment.

As for the source do you mean CD or records if so it will be both of these I would listen to record more for my love of Pink Floyd.

I currently live in Thailand and there is a few good places in Bangkok that stock high end gear if you had my money what would you put together ?

cheers for the help

I am currently using Linn Classik, and it is starting to show its age, I am trying to decide whether to replace it, and if I do with what. I think that the new Linn ranges are out of my price bracket, but don't know where to start.

We currently use the Linn for TV/Bluray, CDs and Pro-ject turntable.

If you get a chance to go and demo this would be the best option as everyone likes different equipment and likes a different sound.

As for turntables you could always post in the turntable section of the forum but I'm sure a Project or Rega would do the job well.

Your choice seems good, I would just go for the current Marantz products e.g. 6005.

Hi Kenny, welcome to the forum. I think it's more down to you identifying what it is that you need, what kind of room size you have - the 2050i is a big speaker with a big sound - and so on, rather than us telling you what we'd buy. This is £2000-worth and you have many options to choose from. Talk to some of the dealers and see what they recommend. You might find that your choices aren't what you ultimately end up going with.

Find a good independent dealer, tell him your budget and your musical tastes and hi-fi past, and allow him to put together a system that he thinks will give you good performance. Listen to the demonstration and then take it from there. Don't be afraid of makes that get less coverage.

If you don't fancy this approach I'd make a couple of suggestions for starting points....

Rega Apollo-R CD player - RP3 turntable - Brio-R amplifier and then your choice of speakers. I'd suggest trying Rega RS1/RS3 but also considering Dynaudio DM2/6 or, if you want floorstanders, the Q 2050 you mention or possibly some Dalis.

OR

Rega RP3 turntable - Exposure 1010 CD player - Exposure 1010 amplifier - Musical Fidelity V90-LPS phono stage, plus your choice of speakers.

If you would prefer something a little less stripped down facilities-wise then I would suggest trying Rotel RCD-12 with RA-12 amp, the Rega RP3, and the new B&W 685s2 speakers (the only time I really enjoy B&W speakers is with Rotel. It is usually an excellent partnership).
