I currently have a musical fidelity v can 2/ v90 dac combo connected to my pc, my headphones are cheap sennheiser that i bought for £50. I have a budget of around £500 to improve my set up, should i just try and buy the best cans i can afford? or look at a better amp and can combo? I was planning on spending the money on speakers for my main set up but with the birth of our liitle girl most of my listening is with my headphones on.

Personally I would invest in a great pair of headphones as the Musical Fidelity gear is very good.

I got some great headphones as per my signature. I highly rate the Alessandro ms2i and AKG K550 for under £500

I agree with the last post, to buy the best headphone now (and Musical Fidelity are excellent), and just save up for the next DAC/amp in the future. The headphone, if it plays loud enough with your current gear with low distortion, is 90 or more percent of the musical equation, since well-behaved amps have a flat response, while headphones are very bumpy.

Great set of cans you have ordered. I think they are the best closed back headphones for under £500

Great for all music.

I had a short acquaintance with the K550 and have to say it left me totally cold but that's just me.

I had the K553 for a short time, and while the response was remarkably even or neutral, I never felt the urge to grab it when arriving home, to listen to music. I feel sympathy for AKG though - the head of their company was president of the Audio Engineering Society, and their once-$1500 USD K812 headphone is now selling for $800 on Massdrop.

Great sounding aren't they? so much detail retrieval.

they are available for less than £100 and even at their full price i think they are outstanding.

Great with all genres.
