ps3 will upscale i believe, i am sure someone can confirm...........however if u want a dvd player separate to the ps3 there is a couple of 5 star denons under 200 quid, the 1740 and 1940, on at super fi for 100 and 160 quid.....

Yes, the PS3 will upscale standard DVDs, and the Onkyo 605 is a great choice. The Mordaunt-Short Alumni are decent four-star speakers, but for similar money you can get the five-star KEF KHT 2005.2 package (£600) or Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 (£500).

Indeed, you're right. It's a decent DVD player too. Not the world's best, but good enough. I'd happily use it as an interim measure so you could put more cash into your amp, speakers and cables. For amplification, you could look at the new Onkyo TX-SR606, which we've not tested, but which looks (on paper) very impressive. For speakers, the Mordaunt-Shorts have their merits, but I'd also suggest you consider the latest versions of Mission's M-Cube system, now available for £600. If small is your aim, you'll struggle to beat them. For a larger, higher-performance speaker package, go for the Q Acoustics 1010i package, at £500. Not so pretty, but certainly easier on the ear, especially with music.

i agree put the rest of your cash into other components first and youll find some better deals on a topnotch dvd player in a year or two as hd players are soon to be mainstream.
