Just taken delivery of a Music First passive pre. Clicky. Many here will know that I have been dithering around with all sorts of proposals of either pre amps, dacs with pre amp outputs and CDPs with pre's built in. Well you can only dither for so long and you cant take it with you so I have taken the plunge. Out of the box and running with just 1 input connected now for about an hour........first impressions are a very clear and very open sound with a pinpoint soundstage. Extremely well balanced with nothing, mids, high or bass being more pronounced or forward than anything else. Recommendations are for 100 + hrs run in......so I expect it will get better. Will report back in due course. You may have noticed that I am a huge fan of passive pre's. I like simple....so does my missus, thats why she married me.....
So apart from the fact that I am now skint I have just about finished.....as was said when I started this expedition, this was going to be a final solution. Little or no possibility (read the latter) of future upgrades, is there anything left to do....probably (more like possibly really) a dac (although from what I have read its going to be really silly money to get anything better than the 2 options I have. (Dacmagic and VDAC)). My preference at the moment is for the DM. Lots of people seem to say that hi end dacs do not to make enough difference to justify their cost. Opinions please. We shall see. Anything else, maybe a couple of silver interconnects just to finish off. C'mon Joel....waiting for a review of the ones you have ordered.
So there we have it, nearly....coming along nicely, just a pity that I have had to wait so long to get it......
