I'm looking into getting either a ps3 or 360 and a nas to stream hd movies but i have a wireless g router which isnt great with internet so im also looking at the Max Value 200Mbps Home Plug:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001AIKBB4/ref=s9_sima_gw_s0_p23_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0JWPVAZWD6BWR8698066&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294

does anyone else have something simliar? also how would i connect the nas onto the network so the ps3/360 etc could access it, from what ive read the nas connects to the router and streams from there, but the home plug also connects to router with another home plug connected to ps3/360, would this mean the ps3 can access the nas in an improvised wired setup? bit confused! one more question with the nas, does it matter what format the hd is in ie fat32 or is that just when connecting a hardrive to ps3/360 via usb?

if anyone could helpid be grateful, thanks.

Do you have a mains conditioner, something like the Tacima? I've read that this causes problems with the home plugs.

hi, yes i do but i wouldnt plug one into it, id use socket in wall, would this avoid interference as the mains conditinoner would be in socket next to it.

thanks

I use Netgear Powerline adaptors. I bought Netgear switch boxes for the living room and main office. The consoles, amplifier and Blu-ray player in the living room plug into the switch box and then into the Powerline via a single cable. In the Office, the PC and NAS plug into the switch box and then into the Powerline. The router lives downstairs and is also plugged into a Powerline adaptor.

Works a treat.

Voodoodoctor, thanks for reply.

in my situation i would have the nas next to the router upstairs and my ps3/360 downstairs. do u think id plug the nas into the router and the powerline into the router, then have a powerline by tv with ps3/360 plugged into it (poss use switch box for other devices) would this then form the netowrk? would my games machine be able to see the nas ok? does ur ps3 acces ur nas?

thanks

I'm really not sure. I'd do a bit of research, if I were you.

yeah, im not too sure and not sure whether the powerline would effect the conditioner also!

bit of a ****** really!

What you describe should work. I have a Tacima plugged into the socket next to my Powerline and have experienced no problems.

thanks, im not too sure what ive got to do really, wasnt sure if id need to connect nas into a powerline rather than the router, im trying to establish if the nas into the router will then be on the network, whereas i guess if it went into a powerline it would be linked with anything else on powerlines.

Your router should have a couple of sockets so will act as a switch box on your network so the NAS will be visible all over the house.

Just one point, what format are your HD movies in? You might want to look at what the PS3 / 360 can play before opting for one or the other. For example, neither of them can play mkv files natively.

I was considering a western digital streamer too, which should solve file format problems:

I am looking at the home plug solution becuase my wireless is hit and miss with web browsing and therefore online gaming would be a struggle.

thanks
