My TV broke

My Sony KDL-NX503 won't turn on - it just flashes the standby light seven times, pauses, flashes seven times... I have googled, obviously, but nothing is jumping out at me. Does anybody have any ideas?

Had a similar problem with a previous panasonic plasma, and after it was sent off for repair they diagnosed a fault with the internal components that regulated power supply (apologies for the vague description, it was a few years back), which sounds similar. That ended in a replacement TV (albeit after some heated discussions with panasonic).

Good news it's now working! Worth documenting symptoms, date, actions and results though, in case this ends up being an "intermittent fault" (not sure if the sets still under warrantee? If so an intermitten fault is a pain in the proverbial to get fixed).

It's out of warranty. I had to dig back on here to find out then I got it, and it was September 2010. I could argue EU regs about fitness for purpose (and mention it on here a lot) but I'm not sure I'd have the stomach for it...

I got fed up with it only lasting a couple of hours at a go, and balked at paying £70 just for it to be looked at. So I bought the 32" Panasonic something-something from John Lewis.

EDIT - this one

Have you price matched it here?

http://www.prcdirect.co.uk/details.php?nrd=1&product_url_id=TXL32E6B&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feedmanager&gclid=CLiox87Q070CFZShtAoduQ4AOQ

I should be able to find a cheaper deal. Just fill in the online price match form.

They charge £167 for a five year guarantee, John Lewis provide one for free.

It doesn't matter, they still should price match the one year deal. They have a physical shop.

Even if I bought it already?

Yep, up to 28 days afterwards. Just fill the form in and write the order number down and they will refund your credit card.

I always copy and paste the URL for the deal, so John Lewis can find the deal straight away. You can do this on all electricals, iPads and laptops.

I am thinking of price matching this laptop with John Lewis at Currys:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-touchsmart-11-e030sa-11-6-touchscreen-laptop-21449719-pdt.html?gclid=CPud9aTZ070CFYMSwwodGDQAUw&sPageInfo=2_20&ef_id=U0Q-ZgAABTDxrTg5:20140409151610:s

Save £50!

I price matched my iPad 4 with game and got it for £350 with cellular and missed out by one day getting it for £300!

Worth emailing them with price match request. At the most, they'll refuse it.

No need to email the price match form is easy:

https://www.johnlewis.com/never-knowingly-undersold

And the order number is the same so they just refund the card you paid with.

If you paid on a credit card, then claim off them. Firstly, you need an independent inspection to confirm that it is knackered. You get your inspection fee back and also the market value for a 4 year old TV. It is easy to do and the credit card company will have their own department just to deal with this. It is easy to do. If you haven't got the stomach for it, you must be anorexic!

Well since I had my hernia operation on Thursday I haven't got the stomach for anything, other than seemingly accommodating a bowling ball...
