thank you,

appreciate all comments good or bad

i know the fronts arent up to much at the moment but just managed to skrimp and save to buy the surrounds, the centre and the amp, front floorstanders next and then the sub. and then will have to look into some decent cables, only got into all this last year so im quite pleased with it so far, the cabinets consist of 2 bookshelves bought from ikea for 25 pounds and the centre i built myself

Looks very stylish, nice one

Out of interest, will a change of front speakers mean you have to make rearrangements to the book shelves, because it all looks highly integrated / possibly attached?

You were trying to show a webpage as an image (img src means image source, you aren't posting an image, so it doesn't work).

Do you not find the front speakers getting boomy boxed in and that close to a wall?

What are the black things on top of the shelving unit just out of curiosity?

I could do with some shelving like that for my books, can I ask where you got them?

hi there ben

if you can see in the pic i had to take a section out of the bottom shelves to fit the speakers in, and you can get individual shelves at ikea anyway so will probs just get a few then cut to fit as and when.

the only probs i get is not running a sub at the moment the floorstanders do boom at times, i have packed the cavity at the bottom of the bookcase with old clothes to try and stop any acoustical booming if that makes any sense.

can anybody else suggest anything else i can do???

thanks for your comments mate

i got the shelves at ikea, the style is called "billy" i think?

the black things are old technics speakers that i occasionally use for 7.1 setup using an old sony amp.

it can boom but for what i paid for the speakers, i covered the rear base port and replaced it on the front of the speaker cabinets, seems to have helped.

Oh ok, I've seen them in the catalogue, they look a lot better in "real life", I'll have a look at those in that case. Fits in that space nicely.

Thanks for the reply Dave, thought you were using a different type of network adapter to the rather expensive Sony UWABR100 USB Network Adapter, which I'm reluctant to purchase.

I was hoping someone had found a reasonable alternative, cheers Richard.

When you get your new speakers put them on the floor in front of the book cases and experiment with the positioning - I don't think hi-fi speakers are designed to be built in to a shelving unit like that, and the majority aren't ideally used that close to a rear wall either. I think you'll find that will solve the issue. Although admittedly what you have now looks very neat.

I have several Billy bookcases at home (no speakers in them tho

). the_lhc, they're fantastic. We have the glass doors on them (not appropriate in this set up!) which adds a bit to the cost but puts them up another level for style.

Perrydave - At the moment you've got a compromise (as we all do one way or another) between looks and performance. Trying the speakers out in free space will tell you much you're compromising on performance and whether you can live with that compromise. If you do stick with this set up I highly recommend your next fronts are front-ported or sealed box design

Ok, cool, I'll definitely have a look at them, I was going to pay a chippy to knock something together (the space is slightly awkward) but maybe they'll do what I want after all, cheers!

if you know how much space you have i can tell you the measurements if you like
