My receiver says DTShd MA from my ps 3

I,ve just been watching my recently received copy of Top gun on bluray and i forgot that i had changed to audio output to bitstream when i had previously watched a dvd. and my receiver suddenly displayed DTS HD MA 3.2.1 yet i thought the old ps 3 could only output as pcm as it can only convert hd audio in the console to pcm. I'm confused. Any advice

AFAIK, from update 2.30 onwards, this was available as long as you output the PCM stream to your amplifier, which then decodes it to the correct DTS MA format.

I'm guessing it's a PS3 slim? If so, the slim can decode onboard, but the old fat version can't.
