Hi,

I was just looking for some advice on the purchase of my first turntable. Its more a grab a beer and kick back to some Zepp plan rather then any asperations to DJ as the majority of people I talk to seem to believe so not sure if that affects it all?

I'm a massively poor student so I want to be looking around the £100 mark for this perhaps going a bit over, yet not a lot.

errr the rest of my equipment is Cambridge audio 540/640 kind of area

any advice greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Probably a pre-owned Pro-Ject of some type maybe an Essential if you can get one. You may need a phono stage and again a Pro-Ject phono box would do the trick. You could probably pick these up for less a £100 pre-owned and give you some listening pleasure.

Enjoy.

For the money look at the project range on ebay, maybe a little over your budget unless you just want to get a real cheapie from maplins, currys or richer sounds....

I'm a new vinyl boy, only having my first deck for three weeks. I second the other peeps recommendation of Pro-Ject. I bought an RPM-4. It's a little over your budget (I paid £150, second hand), but it looks a bit funky and with the right cartridge it sounds REALLy bloody good.

Guilty as charged.

The new toy should be here on Saturday. Can't wait to get it up and running.

Of course that will be after you have cleaned out the scrunge and renewed the bearing oil i should imagine

Sounds awfully complex from my random internet readings... is this not gunna be a plug in and go job?

Depends. If you have a built in phono stage in the amp. If you do plug and play if not get a phono stage, plug in the TT and the phono stage into the amp. Simple.
