Hi.

After downloading music and storing to an external HD, I'm wanting to the play this in the living room. What sort of set-up would I need, please?

I thought:

HD to amp

Amp to speakers

Music to ears

Sure that this is wrong but since buying my last Hi Fi over 20 years ago, the technology has certainly changed.

The budget is small so more upto £200 than £2000

Thanks in advance

What about somewhere in the middle?.....and as OD has said, what is the rest of your system.

You will need a streamer to connect your HD to the amp. It is better to store your music on a NAS rather than a HD.

I use one of these.

Works perfectly well for me, I have an external drive plugged into the rear USB socket. The only problem is you need to format the hard drive as FAT not NTFS. As I use windows 7 I had to download a program to enable me to format as FAT as win 7 doesn't allow you do that anymore.

Admittedly CA say that the NP30 is best used as a streaming device but o be honest I can't be bothered with a NAS or having to boot up a PC to listen to music, the plugged in hard drive suits me fine.

Before the NP30 I had a Squeezebox which was pretty awfull, and took it back for refund as it woulod randomly just stop playing a bit like internet buffering. Not had any issues like that with the NP30.
