Hi i have a Pioneer DV-868AVi linked to a Pioneer VSX AX5i through a QED fire wire. At the time of release fire wire was considered the best form of digital interconnection prior to HDMi being release. I would like to know if it would make a difference to the music if i ran a pair of phono cables into the cd port on the amp as music is still analog and i listen to music in stereo only, not a great fan of surround music, just love movies in surround.

I know that a dedicated CD player would still be better but i can't keep adding to my stack of amp, dvd, sky, ps3. any points would be very much appreciated, thanks Geoff.

i do play games and i'm not disapointed with my PS3, a lot of my friends have PS3 so we like on line gaming. Just wondering wether phono leads would be better for music reproduction over the fire wire connection, as a good offer for some reference phonos just came up but i don't want to purchase them if the fire wire lead is better reproduction. cheers for responce.

I have an 868 and can tell you the audio is cr*p compared to later models. Youd be better selling it on ebay and buying a Pioneer LX50 or suchlike (FAR better audio ~ and yes, that includes the fact you cant use a firewire with it)
