Hi guys,

I'm just after a bit of advice regarding A/V receivers. What I need is a A/V receiver that is capable of taking multiple inputs (Component, HDMI and SVideo) and then display on either of the 2 outputs (one connected via HDMI and the other component)

Ive been looking at the Onkyo TX-SR505E, but after researching more it seems the outputs can only output the same type of input (i.e. the component inputs only output through component and cant output to the hdmi and vice versa) . Is there anything around the same sort of price that can do what I want?

Any suggestions would be welcome and lets say put a cap of £500 on the price if possible

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Receivers such as the Onkyo TX-SR606 can upconvert from component, composite and S-video to HDMI, but I haven't encountered any receivers able to downconvert from HDMI to component.

Unless, of course, anyone out there knows better...

Cheers for the info Andy :)

To be honest I dont have any HDMI inputs right now as all my kit is component or s-video... but it would be nice.. ill check the 606 out tho!

Any one else have any bright ideas?

Cheers,

Right been having a look around and found some more boxes to look up. However there is one thing I want to get clear in my head, are all the monitor outputs (lets assume the box can output analog video over the hdmi) can output different sources at the same time...

i.e.

42 Inch LCD can output my xbox signal via HDMI while the 22 Inch LCD can output the crappy episode of Coronation Street my girlfriend wants to watch and I can choose which audio I want out of the 7.1? or if she wanted I could then flick the sources over to display on the opposite screens?

Sorry for been a pain but I want to be 100% sure that the principle works before even buying the kit ;)

Cheers,

Nick

I'd actually be really interested in Andrew, Claire or ahyone from the WHF team to give a comment on HDMI switchers / splitters. I've looked into these as an option of splitting a single HDMI output from an AV receiver and sending the images to a projector / tv. I know from what I've read that there's alot of potential for error with HDCP compliance and so on, so I would like a professional opinion on them if possible please. I've asked before about this and it's as though it's a touchy subject for people. Thanks

No, usually not. Usually the same output from all monitor outs.

Well that sucks! :( Is there anything on the market that could do this?

What you are trying to do sounds more like something you can achieve with a Comercial Mixing Desk rather than something you would find in a Consumer Unit as Home Av amps will switch all Video and Sound outputs to the selected Input Device, possibly due to the sheer amount of processing that would be required by the Amp to display seperate inputs on seperate output devices and the added cost of these features would not be needed buy the mass market.
