Hi there!

I am currently looking for a new hd tv, however it occurred to me that I might save some money by using a monitor instead.

Basically what I'm looking for is a screen which has no built in tuner or speakers, but still has all the standard inputs found on a tv (hdmi, scart, component video, etc) and ideally supports full 1080p.

I am surprised I haven't been able to find any reviews on such a product in what hifi since I know that its not unheard of for hifi purists to remove the internal speakers from their tvs and since there are plenty of reviews for separate tuners!

Are there any such products available and can anyone point me in the right direction? I suppose that the viewing angles available on lcd computer monitors might not be as good as that for televisions since the viewer is most likely to be sitting directly in front of it.

Thanks in advance.

What screen size are you looking for? Budget?

AFAIK any screen designed to be used as a PC monitor will not have features such as scart, component etc and usually simply have the standard 15pin PC connection, hdmi etc.

There are screens avilible that are "monitors" in that they have no inbuilt tuner form Toshiba and also Plasmas from Pioneer and Panasonic that also have no inbuilt tuner but most of these only feature a single HDMI connection as they are generally designed with the intension that the end user will use these screens with a external media unit/amp etc to connect their equipment to the screen.

Hi,

They do exist but perversely they tend to be more expensive than regular TVs. Pioneer makes the KRP-500M and 600M and Panasonic has a wide range of professional displays.
