Dear all,

I have to change my old good amp Sony AF270 paired with Bose Acoustimass 5 (passive sub, not a 2.1)

It is really difficult to have a sound i like (+- like with my sony)

I have try (at home) with :

ROTEL RA-12 : wonderfull clarity but not capable to get real deep bass when i want to have it, even with the bass/treble on the rotel.
certainly when i use it as a "home cinema", i can't get deep bass as i want (i want to have the impression my house will crash down, and it was really so with my old amp)
cd listenning is more than good, clear but need to be able to have more deep bass

DENON 710 AE :deep bass are present but amp is to much brutal, volume at 1/4 and sound level is neary high.
cd listenning is poor at high, perhaps is this amp to punchy/powered for my bose accoustimass 5.

I'm really desapointed to choose a amp.
Anyone knows if a Marantz PM6004 wuold be a good choice? It has bass/treble and loundess, wat i am looking for.
or another advice?

I do not want to buy a HC system, want to stay stereo with my Bose Acoustimass 5 (paired with the sony amp, everyone was impressed)
Need deep bass.
Need help.

Thanks a lot.

If this can help you >>>I tested Yam 500 and after 1 week i changed it for pm 6004, treeble were too annoynig: with Marantz the highs are more liquid, the middle freq and bass (!) more beefy than Yam...
I find this amp to be somehow better than my 20 years old Quad 34 + 306

******************************
Yesterday I did some measures:CD Dark Side otm - absolutely high volumes (there were no neighbors!) with 15 o'clock knob, (max is 17 hours) in the peaks had (average) : Vmax = 14 V/ch and Imax = 1.7 A, for a maximum power of almost 25 W/ch; I generally listen to 9:30 hours max, with wife who coming asking me for lower volumes....
I've to say that, while the Quad 34 + 306 that I owned before, with the same B&W boxes, and at a little lower volume, was going in protection (I had to unlock it using the back button) and also warmed up a bit on the smart front radiator, the Marantz instead was almost cold and never gone + in protection.
The Quad was also sounding a little harsh and with harder highs, at these levels, while the Pm 6004 has retained a good liquidity on the highs, which were still confortable...;Anyway in everydays normal cd listening, at 9:30, I get only an output of 1 W/ch max on peaks!Just a few thoughts in my bad english...

Thats not a discription of the Rotel RA 12 that I recognise, it certainly is'nt bass shy. The Bose system is most likely not a good match with the Rotel and in all honesty the Rotel deserves to be partnerd with a decent set of hifi speakers and not a lifestyle speaker system.

Cant say much about the Denon as I've not heard it but if I had to make a guess I'd be suprised if it bettered the Rotel.

The Marantz PM 6004 is a good amp but yet again deserves to be partnerd with a decent set of hifi speakers.

I own both the Marantz and the Rotel and the Rotel is the better amp sonically.

The weak link here is the Bose system as you are not going get a good idea of how these amps really sound.

If it was my decision I'd sell the Bose system and go and demo the amps you mention with various speakers. If you are dead set on keeping the Bose why not see if you can buy another Sony amp as that's the sound you are familiar with.
