I'm currently using a Merlin Black Widow with my TV and a Russ Andrews Powermax with my PS3 and, although I didn't think the difference was astonishing in picture terms, it cleared up a tiny bit of noise I could see on some aspects of the picture so I've kept them for that reason.
I also had the Clearer Audio Silver-line cable for a little while powering my Onkyo receiver and, again, I did think there was an improvement, but in this case, not £200's worth of improvement so I sent this one back for a refund. I'm currently deciding whether it's worth trying a cheaper cable for this or not.

I personally use a Russ Andrews powerblock connected with some custom made 16 core braided cable from ebay. The 16 core is INCREDIBLE for the money so if anyones interested give me a nudge.

I hooked a friends up with the Tacima mains conditioner and 3 core braided silver plated mains cable from the same ebay place and it looks WAY better than before.

I don't think that's the same kind of noise we're talking about in this thread. I'm making an example of it as I really don't want people to think that buying a £30 mains cable / 4-way socket will solve all their noise problems. Personally, the set was excellent before I did anything with the mains, but there was a very slight improvement to be made from upgrading. People should realise this and not to try and correct a fundamentally bad set with mains leads.

Hi yes i do have the tacima CS929 for both my AV and HiFi....

what i am doing is working on a list of tweaks to improve my set up...

i am at the mo getting some granite slabs for the HiFi and speaker stands, then it may be the mains leads, all the while i am saving so i can replace my front speakers in the AV kit to some tannoys revolution R3's if i can find a good pair.

after that i may (but not sure) look to replace my speaker cable for both the hifi and AV... then i guess the bug will be biting and i will end up looking at new CDPs and Amps... :)

its never ends does it!

beater:Not sure what you mean here professorhat just asking for some advice on how to improve it,our are you just saying i've got a bad set.
No, sorry, in your case it's more likely a bad signal causing the noise. What I should have said was there can a few different causes and swapping the mains may not fix it if it's not mains interference causing the issue in the first place. Suffice to say, I didn't really notice it until I swapped the mains cables, that's how slight an improvement it was. Of course once you notice it though, you can't go back!

I assume you mean via freeview? Thats more to do with the aerial than the tv (Though the inbuilt freeview recievers do of course differ and some broadcasts are 'blocky' anyways).

Yes i do mean via freeview, although i have just had a new aerial and cable fitted ,maybe thats why most people just go for sky to get a better picture.

Itll take a while for the cable to 'bed in'. Whats the SIGNAL STRENGTH? (Should have something within the menus somewhere)

How is it set up? is the cable straight from the aerial to your tv? Through something else first? (Really wants to go straight to your tv really). Or is it to a wall connection then to your tv? I highly recommend a decent cable inbetween the aerial cable and the tv from ebay that has ferrites on if your interested. (only 7 quid or so if I remember correctly)

The signal strength is showing both bars right up on most channels and signal strength 10 when i tuned it in.

The aerial lead is coming straight from the aerial into the house then i have a good quality lead going to a d.v.d recorder then one coming back out to the t.v.

well if possible ~ it really should goto your tv first (My tv has a coax OUT socket too)

But to put a case in point ~

My mate has a Samsung 42" tv which hed had for 2 or 3 years. I went round and the picture was...well.....c*ap! His freeview in particular looked generally awful (lots of 'blocking'). I suggested some items to borrow and after some persuasion he decided why not.

I lent him a Tacima mains conditioner and some braided mains cables. Calibrated his tv and left him to try them for a month.

When I went back his picture looked better in every aspect and my mate was so chuffed he went and bought some himself.

I can't change the way my aerial lead is connected but I will give my new russandrews mains cable and tacima mains conditioner abit more time to see if they get better after a bit of time.

well if you ever want to try em, the braided silver plated mains cables are the bomb (and they blow russ andrews classic cable away as I have one myself). If all your stuffs new then it really needs a good 6 months or so 'running in' first though mate :)

On calibration ~ IS your tv calibrated correctly? Its just people tend to turn the sharpness up too much on their tvs which inherantly makes a bad picture 10 times worse (and losing actual proper detail in the picture at the same time)

If not, get a hold of a THX test disc to set up Contrast, Brightness and Sharpness (Though sharpness shouldnt be effected via a hdmi lead).

Set sharpness manually by having the picture just above 'blurry' and see how it goes. And set colour so that people faces look natural without looking all 'red' and 'flarey'.
