Was Curious has anyone else experienced this, It Happened During the Big Question we had to reset the volume after adding the Leads and conditioning, I did not notice it quite so much when I added the Tachima to my system though it may have gotten a little louder as my wife definitely complains more about the volume more since I put it in

(I just tell her it must be her as it is set exactly the same as it always has been

.

I had a change about the other day and now have the DVD/HDD running from the Tachima conditioning Block, and it sounds much louder, I have had to reduce the Amp volume by maybe 6db.

That was an excellent Big Question to find yourself on. I certainly plan to quote from it in future cable debates! How did they set up the listening trests so that you could not see what was going on?

Regards your original point, I agree totally, I have always used 'loudness' to determine whether an upgrade was worthwhile or not. If the hifi sounds louder after the upgrade then it is a worthwhile upgrade. I say 'loudness', but to me it is more to do with clarity. Have you found that you need to turn the volume up to a certain level before the music becomes clear? Below that volume it sounds dull and lifeless. I think that many upgrades have the effect of reducing the level of volume needed to get out of the dull sound.

So as you say, it sounds louder even though you have not touched the volume. But you have not made it louder. But you have made the sound clearer and added more life and dynamics to it.

They had a 50" Plasma sitting in front of the Kit they changed the setup around behind this so we could not see, a Black perspex screen at the side of the room with the mains extensions running from the Plug (I thought this had just been dumped in the room) and they had two sheets on the floor covering up the speaker cable, I did not twig about the sheets on the floor during the review I should have really but I was so engrossed in the review itself and the music I did not really pay much attention to the room itself.

It was done very well a real Blind test we had not got a clue what was being done.

WRT the post I have had both of what you describe, the detail being available lower in the volume probably on the CD more, but with the DVD it definitely sounded louder there is just much more, I have been listening to DVD with the volume much lower on material I record.

Hello

Mains conditioning blocks and high performance power cables can lower the noise floor significantly; thus a pre-defined volume level can sound slightly louder in comparison to a standard block and power cables. Other specific audible improvements such as improved bass depth, dynamics and quieter soundstage also contribute to this effect.

Best regards,

Darren
