Mac Audio Midi settings

Hi - hoping a more knowledgeable Mac user than me will be able to answer this question.

Can the Audio Midi settings for the built-in digital output on a MacBook Pro be set to adopt the native sample size/frequency of whatever file is being replayed? I've just started to try out some high-res files and it seems that you have to manually set the midi settings to match the native format of the file as you switch between different types of file, which obviously isn't very convenient.

Thanks!

Can't give you a solution to this problem but would love to know if there is a way to do this too.

but that doesn't take into account sample rate changes.

also, itunes must be restarted for any changes in audio midi to be recognised.
