It's a sad enditement that in this day of Hi Tech Digital TV and Blu Ray/DVD that so many people still seem to be suffereing unecessary from Lyp Sync distortion........... but can you get 'sound' advice from anyone (excuse the pun) to resolve this curse.......hell no

Then you hear stories that perhaps lyp sync distortion is down to the type of HDMI version of cable you are usuing whether 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 and that if you are not using the same version of cable between your source and AV Amp, or if indeed your source and AV amp aren't 'version' compatible that you will experience lyp sync problems

So................what AV amps are out there that have audio delay built in that actually works without having to even consider the possibility of add ons from the likes of www.felston.com

The Panasonic SC-BT100 3.1 Blu Ray ( also DVD compatible) Home Theatre System is about to hit the Panasonic Retail shops in the next few weeks but I just wonder will this too be a casualty of Lyp Sync when hooked up to an HD Ready/Full HD TV display or is it going to work first time out of the box

Also are you going to be able to plug in either your SKY, SKY+ or SKY HD box into the back of the system to enable you to play sound from these through the system's speakers

Tallyho, you have mentioned this before and I really don't understand the problem. I have a 2 year old, reasonably budget receiver and I have no problems with lip synch. If a dvd has a discrepancy, the receiver can be adjusted quickly and easily to sort it out. From what I've read hdmi 1.3a used with bluray has automatic lip synch.

OK....so if I got the SC-BT100 which essentially is the Panasonic BD30 new Blu Ray player with add ons and use a 1.3a HDMI cable between it and my 1.2 compatible Plasma display, you're saying that I shouldn't encounter any lyp sync problems at all?

Clearly not since you've mentioned you're plasma is 1.2 compatible and the lip synch feature is only relevant to the 1.3 standard. The other issue is, I'm pretty sure that, just because a device has a 1.3 certified HDMI port, that doesn't mean it necessarily supports all the features.

I am with Gerrard on this one - out of all the films I've watched (and believe me, this is in the thousands), I've only had a few occasions where the lip synch has been out on DVD. So far, none of my Blu-Ray discs have been...

OK but where's the simple answer I'm looking for.

If I buy the SC-BT100 Blu Ray 3.1 Home Theatre system from Panasonic ( which can also upscale DVD's to 720p ) and plug into my 1.2 HDMI compatible Samsung PS42Q97HDX HD ready ( not full 1080p) display will I get Lyp sync problems?

It's the very question I keep asking the sales people in the shops and they can't even give me a straight answer

Millions of us Joe Soaps out here aren't in the least bit interested in in all the techy stuff people talk....what we want to know is if we buy that product will it work and will it do what we want it to do......period! At the end of the day why shold we have to worry out about whether something is ruddy well HDMI certified or not , though I think that my next door neighbour might be

I can only assume the question you should be asking is, does the SC-BT100 have a built in audio delay system to deal with any lip synch issues that might occur. If the answer is yes, then there's no issues. If the answer is no, then there is a chance you may get some on some discs.

If the sales staff can't answer this question, go to another shop...

Thanks for that Professor...I'm really interested in the SC-BT100 and I am keeping my eyes open for when it hits the local Panasonic shop......I just hope it reproduces the kind of picture quality my DENON DVD 1940 gives me when upscaling DVDs

......................and as for my neigbour whose mood swings are caused by what I can only put down to a severe hormonal imbalance or perhaps too much GAMMA.......from time to time he changes into an Hysterically Disengaging Mentally Insane person
I doubt very much it will give you as good a picture as the 1940.
I have the same dvd player as you and my Sony STR-DA1200 has audio delay to combat any lip sync issues. On the speaker front, the MA bronze range have a designated centre speaker - I imagine it's called the BR-LCR or something similar - I have the silver versions.

Thanks for that Gerrardasnails

Just seen the SONY for £260 on Richer Sounds in Silver and more appropriately for me at £289 in Black on Amazon

Apparently I Can plug in my DENON DVD 1940 into it with HDMI as I will be able to with either a FREESAT BOX like the new HUMAX or a SKYHD box if indeed I went that way

However, what cable needs to run between the SONY and my SAMSUNG Plasma and can I just use my two speakers with the amp to begin with and then later add the Centre?
You just need a hdmi from your screen to the receiver and then hdmi from dvd to receiver, hdmi from sky hd/freesat to receiver. You will need an optical cable from Sky HD box to receiver and optional coaxial from dvd player to receiver for audio. You can get these for as little as £5 or so. Yes, you can link just your two speakers to the amp no problem.
