Lumin U2 Mini

How can a digital transport cost £2000 when you can get a Fiio SR11 for £100 - which also has WiFi? They both just deliver stereo PCM/DSD to a DAC. If they are bitperfect (which they are) then they will provide the exact same data to the DAC and the sound will only be dependant upon the DAC/amplifier/speaker/room not the transport.

Lumin has reputation for high sound quality, many will admire the minimalistic approach to the design, while this appeals to me to some degree, I know, I'll get frustrated because I can't see the colour pictures of the album and all the information you normally find on a touch screen led.
If sound is paramount and you rather not have the distraction, the Lumin Mini makes an excellent choice, abeit somewhat pricy.

My Vovofox AP05S is fully integrated digital media player, has its own bespoke LPGA design, doesn't use a chipset and I was shocked by the sound quality, I wasn't expecting that. I purchased it as a replacement for my JF MX-Pro digital transport, which was playing up. (I managed to resolve the problem with JF with the latest firmware update).

Anyway, my point. I think the digital arena is evolving, not so long ago, your DAC was only useful if it were aligned to your PC/laptop but now it's starting to shape up, the arrival of multi-purpose digital transports, not just for CD's but those that are equipped to support the highest resolutions such as DSD and PCM 384kHz and higher makes this much more appealing to the consumer. Particarly those, who want something better than poor quality streaming.

BTW I'm tempted by the FiiO SR11 R2R version, only because I'm curious about the ladder tech and AliExpress selling them for around £140 or cheaper. I don't want to feed my obsession for shiny gadgets, so I'll hold off for now! 🙂

A superb network bridge. Way better than the aurelic airies and lightning ds. I use the lumin with roon at dsd256 and the qutest DAC.
SQ really is good.
Don't know what the missing features are. Display isn't on with my set up. Phone, ipad or pc suffices
Those who say all streamers sound the same are way off the mark
Lumin is really highly recommended as a very good network bridge
You do need a powerful pc for your roon though as its a resource hog.
I never use streaming services. I only have my cd and vinyl rips played from HDD.
