Hi!

This is my first time on whathifi but I'm hoping I'll be here for a while!

I'm looking to set up my first system, admittedly it'll be a bit low-range but it's only for my bedroom/university dorm once I get there. Volume isn't really an issue, so I was just going to get a pair of bookshelf speakers, an amp and an ipod dock (adding a turntable a bit later, when I can afford it)

My budget is about £180, but I'm not really sure what weightings I should be giving to the amp, the speakers etc?

Currently I'm looking at

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AM1 (amp)
CAMBRIDGE AUDIO ID10 (dock)

and possibly a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.0's, but I'm not sure if I'm maybe selling myself short in the speaker department?

Suggestions/ideas/rants would all be appreciated!

I think I'd probably feel more secure buying new, simply because I wouldn't have the money to replace components if they reached the end of their life.

Then ex-demo with a warranty.

Can't recommend actual components but wouldn't hurt to demo a few basic items at a local store.

You might even find an active pair of speakers (amp and speakers combined) with an ipod dock might do the job.
