What woudl anyone recommend for speakers to cover listemning to classical music and home cinema DVDs - musicals and opera. My amplifier is a Yamaha AX 763 and current speakers are Quad 12l

I would highly recommend KEF IQ serie for that purpose , KEF speakers are well known for their openness and lively sound performance , it will be also great partner to your yamaha amp.

Watch some of the recommendations you recieve, you need to demo all the speakers you can to see which brands you prefer. Also if you do these demos with your kit then you can get a much better representation of how they match with your set-up and musical taste. What is your budget? Do you have a preference between floor standers or stand mounters?
