Hi when they installed sky in my place they ran a telephone feed from the hallway for me all i had for them was a mains supply! You don't need an aerial socket unless you want to watch terrestrial tv in that room! But after watching tv through a hd box you won't ever want to use terrestrial again!

Hi,

A TV and mains power is about all you'd need. You can pay a one off fee to NOT connect your telephone cable (this info has been posted by others and may be subject to SKY accepting your request so I cannot vouch for it's accuracy).

Enjoy.

Cheers,

think you'll find you will have to have the 2nd box connected to the phoneline. as you just pay the 10 multiroom subs rather than full subs on a second box, this is to make sure you dont use the multiroom offer to get cheap subs and use box somewhere else. like caravan/holiday home for e,g

i will only be getting sky in the spare room.

so no multi subscription or anything!

what is the benefit of not having sky plugged into a phone line anyway?

oh and you wont get regular firmware updates, be able to order box office unless you phone them, or use any of the interactive stuff an such, although not everyone uses all that stuff,

if you only have a phone line down stairs dont worry. they ran a cable outside to the bedroom i wanted. so i didnt have the cable running around the house

The Sky installers do need to connect to a phone line to activate the box (at least, they have done for every Sky box I've had), but once the activation has taken place you're free to disconnect the phone line if you wish.

i suppose that would work, or i could get another phone socket installed in the spare room so that it can plug in directly.

anyone know how much that would cost?

and is it easy to do?

i dont want walls ripped up or anything!

anyones help would be appreciated

Eezer:once the activation has taken place you're free to disconnect the phone line if you wish.
strictly speaking that isn't correct, unless you paid the extra charge not to have the line connected, otherwise when you sign up you agree to have it connected to a phone line for 12months, installers do regulary just run a temporary lead to activate the card and tell you its not needed, because its easier than running it sometimes, but they shouldn't and can cause problems later down the line, when sky notice your stb hasn't done any call backs since instalation,

sky connect to the phoneline during installation, but they will cable from the nearest socket and usually tack the cable round skirtings an door frames or run externally if possible, but if you want a more proffesional job either get some one in, you normally see ads in your local paperf rom about £35, or if your competent by a socket and some cable and run it yourself it fairly simple to wire up

What can I say? I've had Sky Digital, Sky + and Sky HD and have never had the phoneline connected for longer than it takes to install the box and activate the subscription.

I've never had any problems with Sky about this.

I also used to sell Sky for aliving and always told customers they didn't have to have the box connected.

i know what your saying, you dont always have trouble, but i run a small aerial/satellite business an do a lot of sub contracting for sky, and have been sent on service calls to connect up phone lines where it wasn't left connected during installation, the customers had been told they had to have it connected or they'd be charged or could be cut off but still be liable for subs charges for remainder of there contract
