Hi All, I have just bought a LG 50PK590, and spent the weekend hooking it up with my Onkyo TX-SR606 and Sony BDP-360. When I turn it all on, my LG will say no signal, so I won't even see the menu screen for me blu ray player. If I was then to load a blu ray and press play on my remote till it does start, the image will then appear in its full 1080p resolution. So I have now reset my blu ray player so it defaults back to a lower resolution, then the menu system appears fine as you would expect. But now all my films are played at this lower resolution. Any ideas what is going on? Any advice? Thanks Robey

Hmm, had no problems with my PK350 and a PS3 - are you on the right HDMI input as standard? If you have Sky or something in HDMI 1 you'll probably have to select HDMI 2 (if that's where the Blu-Ray is plugged in) to get it to show, booting the disk may trigger the HDMI switchover... Not fully sure and it's a bit early so I'm not quite with it, but sometimes the basic things need checking before anything more advanced.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm only using HDMI 1 on the LG, my xbox and blu ray are plugged into my amp. When I play a blu ray, I'll get the sound from the films menu system (on my surround sound), but my LG will just keep saying no signal, then when I press play on the remote to get it to start playing, the TV will find a signal and start showing the film

Sounds like the trigger from the amp isn't kicking in with the screen properly, not really sure if there's a way to adjust the strength on that... Anyone with any experience of the amp??

On the amp menu under hardware if its not already, try setting the hdmi output resolution to "through"
Do you get a picture straight away from the xbox ?

Hi,

The HDMI output resolution is set to "through", and the picture from the xbox comes through straight away as you would expect, with the TV indicating it is at 1080p

It makes me think that therefore it must be my blu ray player confusing the situation?

Quite possibly, what's your settings for the blu ray plyer ?

To be able to see the Sonys home menu on the screen, I had to hold the stop button down on the player so it defaults back to a lower resolution - 576p 50Hz, the settings are:

Tv Type - 16:9
Screen format - Original
DVD Aspect Ratio - Letter Box
Cinema Conversion Mode - Auto
BD-ROM 1080/24p Output - Auto
YCbCr/RGB (HDMI) - Auto
HDMI Deep Colour Output - Auto
x.v.Colour Output - Auto
Pause Mode - Auto

If I was to go into the Output Video Format, and set it to:
- HDMI
- Auto or 1080p

My LG will start saying no signal, until I have put a blu ray in (say Avatar) pressed play on the remote until the film starts, then the LG will pick up the signal, but I won't have seen any of the blu ray menus or player menus

Hnnmmmmm its a puzzler !
Wonder if the hdmi 1 socket on the amp is dodgy ?
Have you tried plugging the blu ray into a different hdmi socket on the amp, don't forget to assign the input too

Ok, I have been doing some more testing, to eliminate some things

Firstly my Bluray player, I plugged it directly into my LG - no problem at all

Secondly the log HDMI cable I have running to my screen, so plugged my blu ray directly into that, again worked fine.

Thirdly I the changed the cable running between the player and amp, didn't make any difference so the original cable also isn't causing the issue

So the bottom line is it can only be my amp causing the issue

So when I had the player connected directly to the my TV I set it to 1080p, now when I have plugged it back into the amp, the menu does appear, but with green flickering on the screen.

So I thought about this some more, Avatar plays fine but it plays at 1080p/24p, but the player outputs its menu and my Yellowstone blu ray at 1080p/60p and this is when I get the green flicking.

Any ideas anyone?

Hmm, Had that same issue with my LG(same model) and my ONKYO 606 when switching to dvd on reciever and HDMI 1 on tv. However I have upgraded to the pioneer vsx 2020 on Saturday and no issues since, guessing by diagnosis that its the ONKYO.

I did have switching issues with that reciever on many occasions, one of the reasons for the upgrade.
