Hi,

Ive only ever had a dirt cheap surround sound in the past ( and was much better than none ) but now i have my own house - im now looking to buy something decent.

I dont really have a lot of money to spend ( £ 400 ). but this is 10x what i bought my first surond sound for lol. so whatever i get im sure i will be happy with.

I really dont know what is best or what i would need - theres far too much stuff out there - i have just been looking at Yamaha AV67, Q acoustics, and some Jamo products - it seems you need a receiver too - but this is included in package for AV67 - so is this more suited for me ? do i actually need a receiver ? ( i really know nothing on how this all works ). never had a receiver on my old surround sound .....

just looking for a bit of advice on buying a decent quality product for the price.

Any help or links to help greatly appreciated

Thanks

I think a starter kit maybe the pioneer vsx series and some cheap speakers.

You can get q acoustic for 250 or 300, I dont think you can do it all for 400, maybe 500.00 You do need a amp unless you buy a cheap all in one box.

You will need to spend about 30-40 quid on cables/wires as well

Q acoustics if you dont mind the size as they are like small bookshelfs, or boston acoustics, or roth oli 1's or 2's

Why not look at something like the Onkyo HTX-22HDX in it's 5.1 package? It's within your budget at about £300-£350, depending on where you google, and has a great sound for the price. I've just bought it, and I'm really happy with it as my first surround sound setup.

Everything is included for the price. The amplifier is integrated into the sub, 5 speakers, cables and remote....it's all you need! There will be people who say that the Home Theater in a box setup's aren't as good as seperates, and I'm sure they are right, but a budgets a budget for a reason (needing to eat and be warm etc), and I don't think you can go wrong with the onkyo for the price!

Have fun deciding!

Hi read ur question. I had similar problem. Eventually went for the Yamaha 367 AV amp, plus Cambridge audio S30's speakers for the fronts, plus three other CA s20's for the rear speakers and mid speaker. They are bigger than say a Cambridge audio minx or the small Tannoy package, but the sound quality is far superior in my opinion. We ended up demoing a few systems and we thought this was the best for the budget (£600ish). Good cinema sound and good stereo hifi sound also.

Richer sounds are doing a Amp 3d compliant sub, center and 4 satellites all Onkyo for £299 just the ticket for you
