Following on from my original thread...  I bought a KRP500A in Oct last year (I live in Japan) and up to now it's been great.  Recently though it's developed a very annoying buzz.

I contacted Pioneer and they sent a guy round to check the set.  He spent a good 30 minutes listening and asking questions before telling me he would have a think about what to do and then arrange for something to be done.  He agreed it was loud, and that the noise could be reduced but not completely eliminated.  Fair enough, I don't expect it to be silent, I know about the panel buzz, but I don't expect to hear it over the dialog of a quiet film when I'm sat 4 meters away !

The buzz has two different levels.  It'll start off quiet, at a level you can't even hear unless you try too when the volume is very low or mute.  This is no problem, but it'll get louder and stay like that for an hour or two and then quiet again.  When it's loud you can *really* hear it, and it's driving me nuts.  Today two guys came to "fix it" and guess what, it was on the quiet level the whole time. They told me it's normal and nothing can be done and that's that.  Rather rude to be honest, and if I spoke better Japanese I would have been rather more direct in my response.  Girlfriend translated what I didn't understand so I didn't get everything they said.  They won't do anything unless they can hear it, won't take it away and won't replace it.  Not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm in the dog house with the girlfriend as she's fed up with me complaining because she can't hear anything !!  I don't think it helped when I asked if she was deaf....

Anyway, the Kuro has an absolutely outstanding picture but the whole experience is runied by an infuriating buzz and I'm not impressed considering how much I paid for it.  Think before you buy.

BTW one of the guys told me this is the last TV Pioneer will make as they're not selling enough.

They all buzz and it is mentioned in the manual as well as discussed in-depth on many forums. Try powersave mode 2 and it should be quieter. It is still a lot less noise than say a projector would cause and there are, imo, no alternatives for picture quality at the price at present.

Perhaps try my settings which somewhat compensate for the lack of brightness in powersave mode 2 but they are for the 5090 so might not work well on yours.

Thanks drummerman, finally managed to find it on the Japanese menu and straight away the noise reduced ! :)

It's a bit odd, because it seems to take 3hrs of viewing before the noise starts.ÿI'll see how I get on....
