Can I record a hd input using the av output?

I don't want to record in hd but i would like to watch in hd

or does the input need to be av aswell?

In theory you should be able to record from the scart, but there may be copy protection issues. Why not try it?

What if I used Component cables for the input?

would this let me record from the av output (scart)?

i have the same model as you (bigger screen) it says in the manual that AV2 scart will output either 'tv' or 'auto'. auto is described as anything that is being viewed on the screen except inputs from hdmi, component or the pc inputs. so, if my understanding is correct, you cannot record HD inputs.

maybe try and connect your console via scart or composite video and then it should be recordable but, obviously the image quality will be a bit naff
