Hi all not looking at upgrading at the moment just curious, currently running Naim Nait XS. Which would be the better future option?:

1. NAC 202+ NAP 250

or

2. Supernait

Thanks

Hmm. Out of those two I would go for the SuperNait.

However, that is based on my preference for simplicity and dislike of clutter. (You could get rid of the Beresford.)

From what I've read, to Naim lovers they sound different. I hate to point out the obvious. With non-name sources in your home the Supernait is probably the best bet. If you're going to consider a Naim source later then maybe the pre/power is better. This is a question for the Naim forum!

Why is it that anything to do with Naim has to be a question for the Naim forum?

One of my customers joined up on the Naim forum to ask a couple of basic questions, and she wasn't impressed with how she was treated. That's one forum even I'm not going anywhere near! Well, two, if you include the one that won't let me join....

It's quite a simple one really. If you're going to have digital sources and you don't want the extra box of a DAC, go with the SuperNait. If you are going to buy a good DAC, go with the pre/power.

If you're purely analogue sources, go with the pre/power, which is going to outperform the SuperNait. Plus, it'll be better and more versatile as far as future upgrades are concerned.

Reference to the Naim forum was purely based on the fact that there tends to (apparently) be many more Naim experienced people on there that may shed light on the audible differences between the amps that the OP refers to.

Thanks gents. Think I have sorted in my head the 5 year upgrade plan now 🙂, just need to do some demoing / keep an eye out for bargains.

New speakers not sure which yet either PMC FB1i used / Spendor A6 ..........or..........

then

NAC 252 + NAP 250

then

Naim Dac

then

Power supplies

Got to have a dream / something to work towards 🙂

Nice plan. If I had a plan like that I'd have a diamond ring given back to me by my fianc‚.

Audition booked for ten days time

system 1 : Rega Saturn - Naim Supernait - Rega RS3

system 2 : Rega Saturn - NAC 202 / NAP 200 - Rega RS3

system 3: System 2 with the addition of a HI Cap

Should be fun, dont you just love demo's

LOL. It does seem like that!! Not at all though, just want to have a demo see what they sound like, may take more than one audition.

Then onto the hard bit...............................................saving!!

Thing is I love demoing and see it as a couple of hours well spent. Nice way to spend part of a day off. "May" be so impressed / be offered such a good deal the plastic may take a bashing. Dont fancy paying 20% VAT and all that......

Try system one with the addition of the hi-cap too - apparently it makes a significant difference to the SuperNait. Something that I am yet to try.....I just have to figure out how to get an additional box with no obvious purpose past the mrs.

If you look on the Naim forum there is a thread about nac202/nap200 Vs Supernait - it's an interesting read - gets a bit heated but there are as many people who prefer the SN (especially with hi-cap) as prefer 202/200.

True Blue:Dan, excellent suggestion thankyou, will do that. How do you find the DAC in the Supernait?

Hi True Blue,

It's hard for me to judge the SN's DAC in isolation. I upgraded from a CA DacMagic/Creek OBH-12 (passive) pre-amp/Arcam P35 power amp/Arcam P38 power amp to the SN and all I can say is that as a whole the SN was a big step-up. That suggests to me that the SN DAC is at least as good as a CA DacMagic. In WHF's review they say it's comparable to the DAC in a Primare CD-31.

HUGE dem organised for next Friday 🙂

The supernait has alas been scrubbed I am now looking at what to add to my XS first on the way to a 202/200 combo

1. The NDac 🙂

2. HICAP 2

3. Nac 202

4. Nap 200

It's demo day 🙂
