JPLay Beta 6 testing started this weekend - there are bugs and glitches but the overall consensus of the people testing is that they have made a big improvement over the Previous JPlay 5 for SQ

There are tangible reasons for this - they have improved the link to the DAC from the computer and also improved the streamer so that previous software is no longer needed. Its surprising just how much an effect this had on the SQ of my system.

My Initial impressions are very strong indeed - but its not perfect yet, but I already have beta 2 to try

Going back to the previous setup was unlistenable for me by comparison that is how big the improvement has been - but I am also not 100% happy with how I have the new 6 setup as I have not had the time to fully test all the settings to get the best setup I can.

In saying that using JPLay mini gave me glorius sound - really organic and I would love that sound but it doesnt have any library management currently so its not for me.

I have only had a days testing but its impressive start / stuff what they have done / continue to do. I will report back later once I have had more time with it / on the progress

In the new beta 6 they have bypassed the motherboard clock - the motherboard clock is not used anymore - thats one major improvement over JPlay 5.

The other is a dedicated streamer service to allow playback from alternative streamers - it was this testing that proved the biggest difference to me yesterday when I did A and B and thats the most exciting part.

I would prefer to use the system the old way as the library control is much better but it didnt sound anywhere near as good so lets hope they get the new way working perfectly and that I can get the settings best for me / my system sound preference

Remember this update is given to all users for free, there is no charge, no charge for their technical support (I had over an hour of it yesterday afternoon) and there is not much commercial to gain from doing it other than just achieving better sound and the pursuit and interest of it for them.

so how does that work in DAC's with only a Synchronous connection then?

.....or making more money. It's not a free bit of software least we not foget, yet it uses a hell of a lot of open source components now, wouldn't be surprised if there's seriously close tightrope walking with what they are using and what they are charging for. Anyhoo, I'd expect the technical support and most updates if I'd paid for it, please don't make them seem like they are doing it out of the good of their heart.

For me its the only upgrades I have ever received for free - the rest I have had to pay for (paying for upgrades does not bother me, that is what you largely expect)

But to get them for free to me is commendable and I appreciate it - I have not recieved this from any other companies I have bought from that I can recall -and I dont include firmware updates in that comment as they have largely improved functionality very rarely performance in my experience

christ on a friggin bike, has anybody looked at the jplay forum. It's a quality chuckle.

some sagelike advice such as "there are many factors that can improve CD/DVD ripping: suspension blocks for both external DVD-driver and external music SSD (O.S. SSD needs a suspension block too)"

aye, so that's right, an SSD with no moving parts needs a suspension block. Brilliant.

"suspect that today's PCs and/or DACs still are not able to extract all musical informations from 16/44 files, so we can "help" them by upsampling & bit depth increasing"

"am currently using a Control PC (I5 laptop with Win7) and Audio PC (Win 8/JCAT USB, JCAT SATA, JCAT Battery PSU) and feel I am at a crossroads – should I go all out for a single PC and use the JCAT parts in a new PCwith SSD, Linear PSU, WS2012, AO etc or is it really still necessary to have two optimised PCs in Control/Audio setup?"

erm so now somebody is reccomending a seperate pc just to control the software..... wtf...

Comedy gold, at the same time, not sure even a triple facepalm is worthy.

People use 2 computers and report much better sound - I have not tried it so cannot comment but I dare say neither have you - so you cannot categorically comment either

There is also no need to change the topic in question and post as you have done.

This thread is about jplay 6 not about anything else - you are just being a !!!! in all honesty again

ok, considering I'm the only person who has actually asked a direct question about the software, I'm not sure where that's come from.

sigh, here we go again. Ellis, if you post stuff I disagree with, why should not be allowed to comment?

no, there's still no need for personal insults. None whatsoever.

Your still going - you are a see you next tuesday in my book -

I am posting my opinions on my experience of using an audio product and again you are deliberately trying to ruin the thread for no reason that I can see other than personal idiocy like all the other unecessary comments from that same people again.

I dont own the software I just use it and want to post my feedback on it - and I will continue to do so - depsite your consisent BS

I will happily edit the post but I had to say something because it has got silly

More JPlay Beta feedback (Beta 3)

I have had some time to test now with the new JPLay playing as its supposed to, without issues.

There are quite a few options to try out - I have settled on some for now for certain sonics reasons but could well change them with more time

There is no doubt this version SQ is leaps and bounds over the previous version and this has been fully supported by about 20 + different people who have been testing it. I have worked out a few bugs in my own playback a few still remain.

What this new JPlay has given me is a vocal (song dependent obviously) that is absolutely carved out in the soundstage and borderline real sounding. I have been chasing this sound and its the first time I have got nearly there - its not quite 100% authentic real sounding yet but I am a lot closer and this is no exageration. I will keep working on it because I know its there to be had. Timing, Space and Transparency is immense, really good bass that's less weighty than my previous JPlay setup but much clearer and tighter - when I went back to the previous setup the bass wass all bloated and uncontrolled by comparison - its amazing what you adjust to and think is excellent until you hear much better - bass is especially like this I have found its much clearer cut than mid and treble which I think is more personal preference

I have had to convert all my songs from wav to flac - while the pc was doing it I listened to an XLO test cd via my blu ray player fed HDMI to my processor in stereo - the sound was really excellent and I was thinking I hope the audio PC sounds this good when it goes back on.

The minute the full library conversion was finished I fired up the same songs on both players. Its track 18 on the XLO disc - its a choir singing Ave Maria.

This is no lie or exaggeration

from the Blu Ray Player the choir starts singing and its presented directly between the speakers and is a small sound stage - sounds like maybe about half a dozen or so people singing tops - its focused and sounds relaxed and authentic. It sounds good

Then from the audio pc - the initial soloist starts off huge by comparison - full size vocal as you would expect from someone singing in the room with you - then the full choir comes in which now is literally the full size of my room from outisde both speakers across the whole sound stage.

What one would prefer is up to them but The difference between the 2players in this instance is massive and clearly audible - they are both playing the exact same cd, one has been ripped to wav and then converted to flac uncompressed.

Bit perfect is Bit perfect is just not the case at all and this is proved to me time over again

The new JPlay is really incredible with a lot of potential - I know I am not getting the full SQ from it yet and my sound is far from perfect but I am working on it as I always do.

Beta 3 is no different to beta 1 just bug fixes.

The beta's expire sunday apparently - i think they are happy with it and will likely release it as is but last time the official release was still improved on the beta, but not by much.

Maybe same will be done this time, dont know.

Its free to try for as long as necessary but i'd wait until 6 is available at the moment its 5.2
