Hi! Does anyone know the best place to look for UK jobs in the Hifi industry? I'm ready for a career change and want to do something in an area I'm passionate about. As I'm 40kg too heavy to be a pro cyclist, it's going to be Hifi!!! Thanks...

Thanks for the replies - I'm afraid my talents (such as they are) aren't in line with the requirements at PMC. I'll keep trawling the internet I guess!

Whats your background? Can't hurt to send out speculative applications, might blag yourself a site visit ;)

Do you fancy a job at PMC ?

There might be a bit of staff discount as well. *good*

Why don't employers put the chuffing salary in vacancies adverts?
It's a waste of everybody's time applying for a job that doesn't pay enough

Thanks very much everyone. Background is training and consultancy with some sales. Worked in retail a long time ago, and not looking to go back. Ideally, I'd love to find a field sales/training role.

Luckily, I'm not in a desperate position, so I guess I'll take my time and see if I ever find anything worth applying for!

ive done some work in training/regional management for field sales. You need to figure out what field marketing agency represents the brands you are interested in. Naim had a pretty big campaign for the muso, B&W do to.

So you're looking for a rep job? In my experience, there's two types of rep:

1 - those that have been in their position for a good number of years, and nothing will change that. They're going nowhere for no one.

2 - those that change company every few years, for whatever reason. You might not hold a position for long, but at least you know another might crop up soon!

This sort of position is stable for some, but a game of roulette for others. There's quite a number of weekends away too, so not generally ideal for a family man - have you seen the amount of hi-fi shows there are, as well as dealer events?!!

It looks like more research is certainly required.

David - that's pretty much exactly what I'm after. My job at the moment involves a large amount of travelling, I've been to over 40 countries, on every continent (except Antarctica) on trips lasting from 12 hours to 6 weeks. The idea of being able to combine travel, and hifi, is just fabulous!

Anyway, should I make any progress, I'll be sure to let you all know!

World travel is a different thing. I only know of two reps who have the privilege of travelling the world for the company they work for. That's not to say there aren't others, but those sort of jobs won't be something you'll get right off the starting blocks. But hey, who knows? :)
