I was litening to my Hi Fi recently and crouched between the speakers and noticed how much bass is lost by sitting back a few feet.

The only way I could boost the bass was by turning the volume up by a fair bit.
Between the speakers they sounded great, like a good set of headphones but better.

We are generally told to sit about 2m away and have the speakers same distance apart, but maybe this should not be the case ?

The equilateral triangle arrangement is often advised as the best layout to start with, it is however often wrong and trial and error is the only way to determine what is actually best.

I tried the speakers facing me at the seating position and bit by bit turned them until they were slightly firing away from me... the difference was minimal using Spendor a6r speakers

Bass is very room dependent. In my living room I have a massive bass null at what should be the ideal listening position.
