Hello all, i need a bit of advice.

I've just bought this months mag and the 32" lcd tv results made interesting reading. However, i'm sold on the idea of a 37"screen, so what should i do?

I've done my research and i've finally decided to go for a Panasonic LCD, but this is where i get confused...

I didn't get the August issue of What Hi-Fi (tut tut...) so i haven't got the 37" test results to hand, but i've read on another post that the Panasonic TH37TX70 came out on top. Now when i do a search for this model it comes up with nothing. What does come up is the Panasonic TH37PX70B, is this the same set? And if it isn't, what's the difference between both of them? As i can't find either set on the Panasonic website.

Thanks in anticipation for any advice given, this research is starting to make my head spin :)

You do mean Panasonic TH37PX70 I believe, and it is a plasma, not LCD. I just purchased this and WOW, fantastic TV on standard and High (now got Sky HD). You can have various option, base stand, pedestal and that is what the end letter relates to which option you go for. Just search on Panasonic TH37PX70 in google and loads of options come up.

I got mine from comet, £999 in shop but click and collect was £799 including base stand, bargain. I could have got it online elsewhere and have it delivered for about £70 cheaper but I like the fact I have a shop I can take back should I have any issues. (dixons online £750, Amazon £720)

It really is a great TV, but it !!

No, it's the TH-37PX70 that was in that test. And yes it is on the Panasonic site, but you may be looking for it under LCD TVs. It's a plasma. You can read all about it here.

Well, when I say 'all about it', we are talking the Panasonic website here...

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

Ok then, next question...

Does the Panasonic TX-32LXD700 have an equivalent in 37" at the moment, or in reality is that the gap that the TH37PX70B fills?

Also, does anyone have a way of me accessing the reviews given for 37" screens in the August mag? If not, which models ended up being top three?

Thanks again for any advice given, i really appreciate it :)

Actually Panasonic now provide the TX-37LZD70 which is a full-HD (1080p) 37" set (I know your response was in August when it wasnt available)

One thing that I can't understand about this 37" plasma, is how come it gets such great reviews when its resolution (1024 x 720) is so woefully low

OK sure it has a 1080 down-scaler on it, but can this set really be as good in picture quality as a native 1080p LCD ?

Perhaps its just my ignorance of plasma sets, but I'd appreciate someone setting me straight on this, thanks

You'd actually be very hard-pressed to notice the difference between 1920x1080 (Full HD) and 1280x720 (HD Ready) on a 37" panel at any sensible sort of viewing distance, simply due to the size of the pixels at the distance from which you would be sitting (a rule of thumb is that it tends to only become noticeable at 42" and above, and arguably not until even larger). This diagram is a useful guide.

Remember that resolution is only part of what makes a good HD picture - you must consider just as strongly (if not moreso) things like colour reproduction, black levels, and fast motion performance. The overall picture is what matters at the end of the day, and there will be no better judge of that than you - so having a look in a shop is the best idea (being sure to check the TV's don't have crazy contrast/brightness etc. settings).
