My B&W A7 is another option, which is surprisingly good. DAC+Active speakers+Streamer.

A7 is very easy to listen, good detial and dynamic response, great one package solution for iTunes users. I do have one in my bedroom. However, it can't replace a proper built hi-fi system, because it doesn't have the sound stage imaging that a good hi-fi system can produce. This is more apparant in live records. A7 can fill the room with music easliy but its sound stage is very contained within its box, couldn't tell the sounds is coming from left or right channel and it is flat. It could not project the illusion of the live stage, like hearing two guitars, one-left one-right, one bass guitar at the right, drum at the back, vocal in the middle.

Of course, a streamer + amp + a good pair of speaker will cost much more money than A7.

ADM 9 dimensions 30 x 20 x 26, Wharfedale 9.1 dimensions 30 x 19 x 28. Are you looking to downsize?

No. Because of the shape of the Diamonds, they are only 15cm across the face, so look less imposing.

Interesting to see what works for different people.

I usually find that distance from the backwall is more important in terms of intrusion into the room.

Combining the two, the Adam Artist 6 is just 13.5 cm wide and has controls (shelving) for adjusting the bass level, so should be easier to place in a room.

Tiny floorstanders can look very elegant.

Ideally I'd choose wall-mounted, sealed enclosure speakers with no 'footprint' to speak of.

Stand-mounted and floorstander speakers take up way too much room when you count the space required behind them, to each side of them and the 'no go' area in front of them!

Ok in large rooms, maybe, but increasingly unacceptable in the average (smaller) house or flat when system + speakers + non-useable space around speakers may total up to around three or four square metres or more.
