Thanks everyone for your replies. I am at the moment suffering from 'Man Flu' so as you will understand it is taking quite a bit of effort to try and reply to your messages.
IDU I found your suggestion with regard to the Switching Box at Maplins very interesting. I did go to the Maplins site but felt the switches on display were more suited for switching between sets of speakers rather than two different Systems. I have Emailed Maplins just in case I am wrong, when they come back to me I will be able to look at your proposal again.
mathewpiano I am sure your suggestion about the 'Squeezebox' is a very sensible one. I am afraid it is just a bit beyond my knowledge level. In fact the only Squeezebox I have ever come across is one my Dad owned and that was a nickname for is Piano Accordion that he used to attempt to play. Thanks again and sorry about my intelligence.
Up the music. The cable with the two wires comes from the inside of the Record Deck and the Red and White plugs on the end of the wires fit into the two sockets within the amplifier unit and the sockets appear to be labelled 'Phono' They are just two plain wires with plugs on the end. Yes I am prepared to consider second hand equipment; however the whole point of undertaking my upgrade is to bring me up to date with today's facilities. i.e. DAB radio and MP3 etc. I would be very willing to buy things like speakers, Tape Decks and Record players second hand. I shall be looking at your suggestions very closely when I am feeling a bit better.
8009514 Your suggestion also sounded very good. Especially the bit about keeping my wife happy! I was surprised you said to keep the Aiwa speakers because I am lead to believe they are very important when trying to achieve a decent sound. Having said that I do recall asking about the quality of the Aiwa speakers, but did not get a reply as such.
I now think I have got a lot of options to consider. I think keeping the Aiwa System for the Tapedeck and Record player facility alone is a money saver. However the Goodman's mini Record Player seems good. Like I said I have a lot to consider Thanks again
