Is Bigger Better ?

Hi All,

On a couple of occasions lately I have suffered picture freeze / break up on Sky HD when it has been pooring down with rain.

My question is - would it be better to swap my 60cm dish for a bigger 80cm dish ?

I have read that this helps with rain deflection (whatever that is) and a dish is only £25 plus someone to fit and re-align.

Any advice appreciated from those in the know (daveh75 etc)

Regards.

A bigger dish will give you a greater margin against "rain fade"(i.e signal drop out in extreme weather yes.

However,(assuming you're in the uk) a 60cm dish should be more than adequate for Astra2/Eurobird1 reception, and "rain fade" shouldn't really be an issue, unless you're in the extreme north of england or scotland and even then it should only be a problem in extreme weather, i.e severe/heavy downpours and snow.

An 80cm dish isn't/shouldn't really be necessary for reliable reception of Astra2/Eurobird1 in the UK.

I myself only use a zone1 43cm (sky mini-dish) for Astra2/Eurobird1 reception, in northumberland and the only time i experience "rain fade" is in heavy snow.

So if you're having problems using a 60cm dish, then it may the dish is slightly out of alignment or the LNB is becoming faulty etc.

I will get it checked out before parting with money for a new dish.

Cheers.
