Is a 5.0 set-up possible?

Hi all,

I know there are many threads about systems with or without subwoofer ....

But just a technical question since I am building up my home cinema bit by bit, starting from my stereo setup existing out of a Yamaha stereo receiver (RX-V496) and a pair of B&W's 603s3 :
- Can you set up a surround receiver so that the .1 channel is directed to the main speakers?

Does anyone has some experience with this?
I'm considering to buy a Marantz SR 5004 or a Pioneer V1019 (will have a listening session with both)
The sub would be added later on.

Thanks!

Yes you can, I have a 5.0 setup, when I ran the automatic speaker set up on the AV amp it checks to see what speakers are connected. No sub was detected so the low frequencies come from the main speakers.

I also hope to add a sub later on

There should be no problem if you don't use auto set up just select the no sub option in the amps set up menus.

Before I got The Kef 2005.2 speakers I use to have a 4.0 set up using Tannoy Mercurys as front and GLL Arenas as rears.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I've asked the question to a sales person once, but he was not really knowledgeable...

Now i can go shopping!
