If you've got wireless in your home then Apples own remote works pretty well.

... Or use J River Media Centre 15 - the best bit-perfect audio player on the planet! - which includes "WebRemote", a browser based solution.

All you do is configure a few settings within the player, then fire up any browser window on any device on the LAN and you can control anything! Don't need an app, just a browser window.

I usually have a WebRemote window up on the laptop (is going now as I type) and if walking around the house use the iPhone 4 to change music in a heartbeat. Can have multiple WebRemote sessions open, no conflicts etc.

Is not quite as pretty as the iTunes remote app, but is more versitile (any browser, any system), is configurable and your soul is not owned by Apple (did I just mention I have an iPhone 4.....) Also, did I mention it controls the best playback software on the planet :D
