I have my music library in Apple lossless in iTunes on my PC for my iPod.

My wife has just bought an iPhone and wants some of my music.

She has a separate iTunes account and I want to create a separate library for her, copying and converting some of my music into a lesser bitrate.

How do I do this?

I have tried and failed, so thought I would ask where I know I will get the answer.

cheersa

First thing is open itunes whilst pressing the Shift key. This will let you create a second library for your wife. Just name it 'wife' or something. Outside Itunes, copy all your lossless into a new folder, e.g Wifes Music. Then point itunes to this new folder an import all the lossless. You now have two libraries, one yours and one your wifes. To toggle between each libaray, you need to 'shift click' open itunes as above, and select the appropriate library. To convert her library to lossy, in itunes preferences, change the import qquality setting to mp3 or aac, and press ok. Now, if you select a song in itunes and press the right mouse button you should have an option to 'convert to mp3, or aac,'. You can select all tracks, and covert them all. Finally, sort by file type in itunes, and delete the lossless stuff. Warning - be carefull not to delete YOUR lossless by ensuring you have the correct library open. Try the above on an album or two to get used to it.

Its also important that you point your wifes library to the copied files you created. Otherwise if its still pointing at your music, it,ll delete your music if your not careful
