ipod classic or is there a better way to link my system?

hi i want to store my music digitally and the most obvious way seems to be buy a ipod classic. As i have an cyrus DAC I was thinking Onkyo ND-S1 would be the best way to link to my system. but i'm not too bothered about being able take the music with me so is there there something better that could be permanently linked to my system as i am concerned about loosing sound quality?

iPod classic + your DAC + Onkyo Dock should be fine.
