I just wonder how you know that you just bought the new/upgraded version of a product without taking the lid off and not the old version which has perhaps been in the stock room for some time. Certain companies update internals without changing model names or the look of the product (Roksan) ...

Checking the serial number, which is usually on the box as well as the product itself, with the manufacturer should enable you to find out which version you have.

On other products, mainly AV, it's usually a case of a firmware upgrade. The retailer should know which button combination to press to show which firmware version is installed, and should also be able to upgrade the firmware for you if the model for sale has older firmware.
