Hi,

Got a ex demo REL T2 yesterday, and was wondering if anyone on the forum has experience in intergating such a sub into a stereo system e.g positioning, level, crossover etc?

My system consists of Rotel Amplification, and KEF iQ5's.

Cheers.

There's a few different ways you can do this and it depends on the result you want (surprise surprise). One way is to set the roll-off frequency to start at the place your iQ5's finish, i.e. 43hz, and set the volume so that you can just hear it. This approach can work well if the sub is fast enough but I find that my REL Quake just imposes if I do this. Instead I've set my roll-off to be lower through trial and error (room interactions involved, etc) and then the volume so that I can just hear it.

The danger is that you get the deep stuff where you want it but the top end bass becomes too much. I think I need a new sub!

In terms of positioning, a room will have nodes where you can place the sub to get the best (and biggest?) sound. You can find these through trial and error (and with a friend to help move the sub). Avoid corners and aim for open space. I don't know if any of this is any help at all but good luck!

Cheers, I've managed to get subtle balance and suprisingly the most noticable benefit is in the midrange which is now clearer than before. Of course there is some evident addition to the low frequencies!

Another handy effect of a sub is that due to the extra bass it can give the _impression_ that the treble isn't as bright. Handy for bright systems. Odd I know...

Also, I find that in quiet listening sessions it really helps to increase the gain... Like an old fashioned loudness button.
