Installing a Plasma Wall bracket in the Somerset / Avon Region.

Hi guys does anyone know a good company i could call in the Somerset and Avon Region that could come and install Plasma Wall Bracket for me ? Also what sort of price am i looking at ?

Any builder would be able to do that Jason - don't pay an av specialist, you will be ripped off. Also have a look around for the brackets too. You can get some really good deals.

I hung my TV myself. Bought a universal bracket & some expanding bolts. 5 holes drilled and the bolts tightened with a socket set and you're done.

I've known people try to use rawl plugs and screws...........With predictable results!



As long as the wall is sound, you shouldn't have any issues.

The problem i have is half the wall where i want the screen to go is Brick and the other Half is Plasterboard So i dont really wanna do it myself and dont fancy breaking a £2000 Plasma.

You need a really solid wall to hang a plasma or lcd. Saying that though if a builder or specialist installs it then you should be covered in case things go pear shaped.

I have seen somthing similar in the magazine that has a base with a long pole to take the weight and then the tv mount gets screwed into the wall. I think they where called somthing like vertebra. Not sure how much £'s it would cost though

I did have alook at them but after seeing this guy on Youtube showing his £3000 Plasma braken from one of them its a No No .... I still might just get the Stand with it as thats seem to be the Safe way to go about things.

Whatever you do, don't pay a specialist av installer to do a job that someone with DIY skills (not me!) or a local builder could do in an hour.

Obviously a Plasma is going to be heavier than an LCD, but a friend of mine mounted his 37" LCD to the plaster board wall of his new build house.

I'm thinking of doing the same and as a result was interested (given that I know the extent of his DIY skills) in how he managed to ensure it didn't fall back off at a later date.

In his particular case he knew that the beams holding plasterboard walls are spaced 600mm apart and was able to use a stud finder to locate two beams.

He tells me he marked the beams before mounting a solid piece of wood (most likely just over 600mm wide by 1-2" deep and big enough to take all of the bolts for the mount) between the two (using heavy duty fixings). He then used more heavy duty fixings to attach the mount for his LCD to this piece of wood, before finally putting the TV in place.

Now I'm not advocating that you do the same but this is my round about way of agreeing with Gerrard. Do not pay someone (specialist installer or not) over the odds to mount your screen. Instead arm yourself with a little knowledge and get a local building contractor (or DIY savvy friend) to carry out the work which should be relatively inexpensive.

Another option would be to get hold of a copy of the Dummies guide to installing LCD / Plasma Mounts (I joke not). I saw it earlier today in my local Maplin Store, the packs (one for LCD and a different one for Plasma) were over £100 but came with the mount and a book detailing the installation process.

Again I'm not saying buy this book and Do It Yourself but it may be a cost effective way to get hold of the required mount and also some bedtime reading to help get clued up (and as a result not ripped off).

Hmmm, sounds like good advice until you realise there could possibly be a bit more to it. I'm not saying don't follow Gerrards' advice, I'm just saying consult an AV specialist as well and see what they say. Absolutely, I'm sure a proper genuine builder will get you the bracket you want attached to the wall, but will they have any knowledge of other things you should think of before you get this done? Not likely.
Just my opinion as always.

if you live in Bath then maybe you should talk to someone like Moss or Paul Green etc. its a simple DIY job really but if you dont feel confident then you want to get someone in but be careful. alot of these so called professionals know less about this stuff than you do. the joy of dealing with builders is you will always be disappointed. actually that goes for plumbers, too
. good luck.

talk to some hifi specialists like the above adn they should at least give you an idea of the possible vs the impossible and hopefully prevent the telly ending up on the floor. they wont charge you for the advice.

oh and dont get ripped of on the bracket. ther is so much BS about the brackets. do you need a fixed/ tilting/ cantilever type?
Id get the advice but I wouldnt buy the brackets from them as the mark up can be 1000%
