Hello all,

I think this is a very important issue when you review a set with your own tools (eyes ) !

In fact there's a udge percentage of users that check and buy the sets on big stores and it seems that some are not regarding the fact that in store lightning can afect the sets performance - especially plasmas ....

Remember - store ligtning does not reproduces your home lightining ...

Conclusion :

LCDs will probably look better under in store lightning ( in my home they will not enter :) ok maybe for the kitchen a small one )

Plasmas - you will have the best natural image with your Home Lightning...

So carefull when you review the sets under strong lightning conditions ...

I agree with you. Stores are the worst place to judge a TV.

I understood perfectly...

Yes you are right that in store lighting is usually not the best for judging the merrits of a TV. However some stores do try their best to let you see the TV in proper lighting, i.e. away from bright lights etc.

However:

"Plasmas - you will have the best natural image with your Home
Lightning..."

Thanks for telling me what lighting I have at home.

Not to mention the plasma fanboyism.

:) Plasma Fanboyism - In my honest opinion , from all that i read , from all the experts opinions - Plasma still gives you the best overall picture quality , smoth image , the best response times , better blacks and better viewings angles ....

This is a knowed fact and its undenyable ... so yes i still prefer plasma image ..

"known" fact that is "undeniable"

Right... Makes me wonder why those *** heads at Sony, Samsung, Philips and LG to name a few still bother with their panels that don't render the "best overall picture quality" since plasma is obviously infintesaly better.

Having an opinion that plasma or whatever is better than technology x y or z is one thing, but just using it as a mask to later on go "even though this is just my opinion, it's undeinable" is a bit silly.

i suppose whatever you prefer is the best for you , but not the best full stop..

i do agree though that the majority ,of home cinema enthusiasts etc , still prefer plasma or projectors , at least thats what ive found from reading other forums and reviews etc ..

its a matter of taste i guess , just like different online tech sites reviews tend to favour plasma or lcd , i dont think one is right and the other wrong , they all just like what they like ...

Plasma or LCD is a personal preference. The reason why majority of manufacturers have gone the LCD route is because they could make TVs of all sizes with LCD technology & so saved a lot of money, not because LCD quality is better. You cannot make plasma TVs of less than 37 inches (although there was a 32 inch plasma). The majority of the consumer market goes for smaller TVs. China & India are the biggest markets for TVs. The standard TV size in India is still 21 inches.

Well, I have stated the exact same point in another thread and therefore can only agree with you.

It is unfortunately in most occasions impossible to make good subjective decisions in a shop, and many people will not end up with the best TV for their needs using this approach.

I am not saying one is better than another, and completely agree with you that it is personal prefference.

However, when I visit this site I see a growing number of posts that follow the same pattern as this one, and it often goes with the plasma vs LCD debate. It goes something like this often enough:

It just my opinion that this is best...

Some experts say what I think is true...

How can you deny the 100% truth of my opinion??????

The 4 star g20 thread springs to mind... Amongst others.

Bigboss and Maxflinn have already to some extend reflected on this, but I would like to add a little more.

Don't be so naiv to think, that manufacturer's will always choose the superior technology. The primary goal is to make the most money, there is nothing strange in that. LCD displays is cheaper to produce than plasma displays (at least until a certain size), offering a better return of investment.

Now a days the general buyer worries more about design than actual picture quality (something Samsung, LG and to some extent Sony has realised a long time ago). Some of these design trends, like the ultra-thin screens, are outright counterproductive for the picture quality - but who cares!

Furthermore, the differences between the technologies are getting smaller. WhatHifi often - and rightfully - says, that there shouldn't be so much focus on which technology is used, but rather which TV (no matter the technology) offers the best performance.

There are really good and really bad plasma sets, just as there are really good and really bad LCD sets.

When that is said, I agree with Maxflinn that the majority of experts still prefers plasma screens (and projectors of course). And this is also still my preference. There are more advantages with plasma sets than with LCD sets in my opinion, not to say absolutely no-go's for LCD, like the poor viewing angles compared to plasma. And yes, that is an undeniable fact

ok..plasmas..I tend to dislike the panas.like the samys.lg's so so.kuros good.yet to find the V series from pana.but for me I'd go for lcd.

New years lcd's tend to be all led...still want to wait a bit longer to see when all models come out.
